Assist-A-Grad Scholarships

The Fairfield Community Services Foundation is an annual sponsor of Assist-A-Grad scholarships for Solano County high school students, awarding over $39,000 to graduating high school seniors since 1996. Graduating seniors submit applications and the winners receive funds to help defray the cost of higher education expenses.   One of the Foundation’s awards is in memory of Lt. Col. Rex Floyd.

The Assist-A-Grad Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (AAG) was developed in 1967. Prior to that time, a number of organizations in the community sponsored scholarships using their own forms, deadlines, and procedures. Each had a different, and sometimes difficult, method of awarding the scholarships and disbursing the funds.

Under AAG, a small volunteer group of school and community people have worked hard to provide a single source for information on various local scholarships, a process of interviewing all interested students, and a method of providing the funds directly to the college or university specified by the student. In 1970, the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce strongly supported the Foundation and offered their address for mailing purposes.

The Foundation has continued to operate as a state-chartered non-profit corporation and has promoted the development of new sources of scholarships. Today, Assist-A-Grad is a sound, well-developed community service that is unique in its inception, growth, and service.
