Healthy Food and Nutrition Programs
Studies show that engaging children in food preparation and exposing them to new foods are effective ways to get them to eat healthier. FOTR does this through the Farm-2-Kids program in partnership with the Contra Costa-Solano Food Bank that provides each child with 3 to 5 pounds of fresh fruits or vegetables weekly.
FOTR hosts a Healthy Living Van dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyle choices, including the consumption of healthy foods. Operated by trained staff members, the van visits each site with healthy snacks that utilize the Food Bank’s fresh fruits and vegetables, while building awareness about nutrition and its impact on our overall wellbeing. This summer, FOTR will be a participating member of the National Recreation and Park Association’s Commit to Health Program that is part of a national movement to improve access to healthy foods, increase access to physical activities and connect kids to our natural environments – all FOTR priorities.
